WELCOME TO MY POTTING SHED

You can't beat a dollop of mud a day to keep the Doctor at bay.

Why not follow me about as I garden for money and just for fun in beautiful Nailsworth and its' environs.

What's it all about?

My gardens, that's all and any gardening related stuff I guess you might be interested in.

Where do I garden?

My house is in the centre of Nailsworth. With the wind in the right direction, we get a strong whiff of curry as it floats out of the Passage to India and into our front garden. We never get this smell anywhere else on our premises, which is either a good thing, or a bad one, depending on your point of view. As you now know we have a garden, a small rectangle, at the front of the house, and a triangular courtyard garden at the back. Then there's the Garden Plot, right down in the heart of Nailsworth, which I rent from a local business. This is new as from Autumn 2009 and will take a lot of work to help it become productive. I try to garden for veges at my friend Debbis house and for fun with my next door neighbour.

It adds up to a lot of work. For a relaxing hobby, it's proving stressful at times, but, mostly it's heaven.

There are customers who like me to work for them right through the year, and others who I see during the summer months. This working more days a week in the summer than in the winter, of course. The way to keep the finances stable for me has been to teach on the days I don't garden. Works really well for me. The bills get paid, we haven't starved to death yet and we get to have fun ... sometimes!

Farmers Market - Saturday 18.12.10

I didn't have any spare produce to bring to the market, so I took a load of Christmas DECORATIONS including the fir cones I sprayed the other day.

Dave brought along his APPLE JUICES - I now have a bottle at my house.

We nattered a lot,

and drank the MULLED APPLE JUICE we were making up to sell.

These two girls sang carols to raise money for WINSTONS WISH.
It was very quiet today as people weren't keen to come out into the snow!

Even the TOWN CRIER failed to show - LIGHT WEIGHT??!

The market looked very pretty, though, in the snow -

and, as the morning turned to the afternoon, a queue formed -

A MIRACLE!

Christmas Flowers -Tuesday 14.12.10

Time to get ready to decorate the house .. and to sell at the NAILSWORTH FARMERS' MARKET.

I have kept the POPPY SEED HEADS and HYDRANGIAS dried and undamaged since the late summer.

The whole lot are contained, loosely in a TRUG.

I picked my way through the FLOWER HEADS, spraying as I went.

As with the FIR CONES (see my last post ) I went for a range of colours, white, silver or gold.

I can't wait to see how they look up on the beams in our little living room.

Fir Cones - Sunday 12.12.10

I'm planning to sell FIR CONES, HOLLY, IVY and DRIED HYDRANGIAS at the NAILSWORTH FARMERS MARKET next weekend. I want them all to look as wintery and festive as possible,  so I thought they might be good sprayed.

I made a start on the FIR CONES.

The first job was to clean each FIR CONE of loose seeds and general DETRITUS.

I spread them on an old board and began spraying.

They needed to be turned and sprayed a second time, so that they are fairly well coated.

Then they were boxed by colour - SILVER, WHITE, GOLD.

Market Day in Nailsworth - Saturday 26.6.10

We came to THE MARKET once, with a guest who was staying with us for a few days.

IT WAS HER IDEA.

If we're up early enough to go along, then it's because we've got something to do/go to. Otherwise we wake up in time to hear the TOWN CRIER yelling at the top of his voice.

By the time we've breakbrunched and strolled around the garden , coffee in hand, the market is

OVER.

Breaking with our tradition this Market Day, we had to get up and take some plants along to be sold!!!

So, off we DROVE to the plot to label and load up the remaining POT MARIGOLDS

Things were well under-way and beginning to look
VERY CUTE

The stall is a great idea, as it will take any spare, home grown food and sell it on for a 10pc commission.

The market got busy. We left to work on a local garden, returning later to collect a small number of plants and some cash!

I LOVE MY JOB

and, of course,

MELUUVLEEWALLY!

who helped me wake up and label and load up.
