Why not follow me about as I garden for money and just for fun in beautiful Nailsworth and its' environs.

What's it all about?

My gardens, that's all and any gardening related stuff I guess you might be interested in.

Where do I garden?

My house is in the centre of Nailsworth. With the wind in the right direction, we get a strong whiff of curry as it floats out of the Passage to India and into our front garden. We never get this smell anywhere else on our premises, which is either a good thing, or a bad one, depending on your point of view. As you now know we have a garden, a small rectangle, at the front of the house, and a triangular courtyard garden at the back. Then there's the Garden Plot, right down in the heart of Nailsworth, which I rent from a local business. This is new as from Autumn 2009 and will take a lot of work to help it become productive. I try to garden for veges at my friend Debbis house and for fun with my next door neighbour.

It adds up to a lot of work. For a relaxing hobby, it's proving stressful at times, but, mostly it's heaven.

There are customers who like me to work for them right through the year, and others who I see during the summer months. This working more days a week in the summer than in the winter, of course. The way to keep the finances stable for me has been to teach on the days I don't garden. Works really well for me. The bills get paid, we haven't starved to death yet and we get to have fun ... sometimes!

WalkOn The Wild Side - Sunday 19.12.10

Our walk through the woods ans fields and beside the stream and lake of NEWMARKET was truly beautiful.

In deference to the season, I bring you these gems, left on a HAWTHORN tree by one of SANTAS' ELVES.

I guess this spot has a special meaning to someone. Next winter, perhaps, instead of my baubles,

I may do something more natural in the front garden as a welcome home.

Once we returned to NEWMARKET, we came across this apple tree in a front garden, complete with fruit, hanging; everyone had been pecked by the local birds. A truly attractive addition to any winter garden and a vital food source for wildlife.

Christmas Wreaths - Thursday 23.12.10

Christmas is almost upon us. It's time to get the wreaths on the front doors of our and our neighbours houses.

My hoops are straw and moss, which means they need to be soaked before use. I drop them in a sink of water over night. Pull the plug when I get up and make up the wreaths an hour, or so, later, once they've drained.

Since I picked the holly for the Nailsworth market, 5 days ago, we've had the REDWINGS zoom through and eat every last berry on all the bushes. I've picked ROSE HIPS and HAWTHORN BERRIES to use as substitutes.

As you can see I've gathered together all the items I need to get making the wreaths.

Ok, here it is, one wreath. I'll make 2, one for me and one for my neighbour from who's garden I picked the holly and berries.

They'll last really well as the sprigs have been fresh cut and pushed into the wet straw. They'll have plenty to drink.

Christmas Wreath - Wednesday 15.12.10

One of my customers wanted me to make a basic CHRISTMAS WREATH look a little more festive!

Had fun using a few of my sprayed FIR CONES as well as HOLLY, MAY BERRIES and IVY.

Looks OK. I'll drop it off tomorrow. Hope it'll do.
