A great thing to do at this time of year is to shift plants around, like this big BAMBOO.
They develop dense, but shallow roots. As you prize the root raft away from the soil, using a good fork, keep an eye on its edges, if you see long runners like the ones above, lift them out too. Don't leave any behind.
Now you can give it away, pot it up or plant it somewhere else. I'm going to do a combination of all three.
