You could stand in any garden at this time of year, and there'd be a dozen jobs staring back at you. Here is a selection from the things I've got stuck into this week. There's another hundred tasks demanding my attention.
SO MUCH CHOICE - SO LITTLE TIME : )
This bed in my garden was a complete mess as I didn't clear it at the end of last autumn.
After less than 2 hours it's a different place. No more weeds, no dead herbaceous plants sticking up, Lavender flower spikes (such as they are at this time of year) cut off, along with the tips of every shoot, leaving at least 4 leaf buds on each shoot.
Prune all those ROSES about now. Shrub (previously T roses),
cut back to three buds, or 4, if that gives you an outward facing bud. You're aiming for a goblet shaped plant with no branches crossing through the centre - if there are, chop them off.
Other rose types another time.
There's still time to put in GARLIC and ONIONS.
I put in ELEPHANT GARLIC this week. That's just ONE CLOVE!
They're spaced exactly the same as ordinary GARLIC, but the heads are about 4ins across. Good yield for a small plot.
